In March, Before You Dig Australia (BYDA) hosted another sector safety forum, this time for the national water industry. The forum aimed to address asset protection and worker safety concerns within the sector. Over two days, participants discussed various topics, including ways for industry to work more collaboratively to reduce underground asset strikes and improve access to safety information relevant to the water industry.

One of the forum’s main focus areas was on BYDA’s role as a safety partner within the water sector. Participants emphasised the importance of collaboration and commitment from the water sector to achieve effective outcomes for members, workers and the industry as a whole.

Similar to previous safety forums for the gas and electricity sectors, a discussion paper will be released soon summarising the outcomes and key points discussed during the forum. This paper will provide valuable insights and recommendations for stakeholders in the water industry and will be available for download.

Moving forward, BYDA will host the next sector forum in June, this time hosting the Telecommunications sector. This will provide another opportunity for industry stakeholders to come together, share insights, and work towards enhancing damage prevention and safety practices for telecommunications infrastructure.

Stay tuned for the water forum discussion paper release in the coming few weeks. For our telecommunications members, save space in your calendars for your upcoming sector safety forum to be held on the 4th and 5th of June at the BYDA office in Melbourne.
