Before You Dig Australia has unveiled its new five-year strategic plan, including key pillars and goals. Presented by BYDA CEO Mell Greenall and BYDA Chair Stuart Smith, our new strategy will position BYDA as Australia’s leading voice for damage prevention and industry safety partner when working near above and below ground utility networks.
BYDA’s Vision and Mission
BYDA’s vision is clear: zero damage to member/utility infrastructure resulting from construction and ground-breaking activities, preventing community disruption, and protecting people and property from harm. Our mission includes:
- Developing and promoting education and awareness to increase industry skills and setting industry standards to enhance capability.
- Facilitating collaboration to identify improvement opportunities and increase standardisation.
- Reporting on damage and its impacts, using data to drive education and change.
- Advocating for nationally consistent best practices with government and regulatory bodies.
- Developing technologies to make utility location information more accessible and efficient.
- Promoting BYDA services to maximise impact.
Over the next five years, BYDA’s strategy will focus on five pillars of activity including Asset Information, Advocacy and Regulation, Damage Impact and Investigation, Establishing Standards and Industry Leadership. During the webinar, the BYDA team elaborated on the strategy’s components and the importance of each pillar. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback, fostering collaboration.
Looking Ahead
BYDA’s new strategy marks a significant step towards a safer and more efficient construction industry in Australia. With a clear vision and mission, BYDA is set to lead the industry towards a future where zero damage, zero harm, and zero disruption are not just goals but realities.
