Before You Dig Australia (BYDA) recently released a new online feature as part of efforts to improve accessibility to safety information to support safe work practices. The new BYDA portal is a hub for safety tools, resources, educational services, guidelines and industry insights. It is accessible to all users of BYDA services who carry out work near underground and overhead assets.

The BYDA Portal

The BYDA portal is a central hub to lodge free enquiries, view your responses, keep track of previous enquiries, and access key utility information and safety resources all in one spot to keep you, your team, and our community safe.

Personalised access to safety tools and information

The portal provides access to personalised content for the three main users of BYDA services:

  1. BYDA Members – asset owning members who own utilities, such as gas, water, telecommunications, and electricity.
  2. Commercial users – those involved in civil construction and/or commercial trades
  3. Residential users – individuals who are homeowners/landowners.

Once you select the GET PLANS & PORTAL LOGIN icon on the BYDA website, register for the portal using your existing referral service login details and confirm your profile category and enter state and contact information. You will only need to complete this user-type selection step once. Subsequently, each time you access the BYDA portal, the landing page will have quick links to useful tools. This includes links to the free referral service to lodge new enquiries, view previous enquiries, and contact support.

Useful resources

Our range of resources is accessible via the main menu within the BYDA portal. These include best practise guides, safety information and requirements from asset owners, and relevant codes of practice. The BYDA portal will evolve over time, allowing us to provide you with more relevant and customised information to support safe work practices.

Damage Data Dashboard

One notable aspect in the new portal is the damage data dashboard, which identifies high-risk areas, equipment, and industry groups. The damage data dashboard utilises seven fields of anonymised damage data shared by members regarding asset strikes. This feature plays a crucial role in shaping our advocacy efforts for policy reform and creating safety and education initiatives, all aligned with our commitment to achieving zero damage, zero harm, and zero disruption.

Easy access

The ability to share safety information with the BYDA community means we can address potential risks and mitigate them effectively. We encourage you to check out the BYDA portal online – sign in using your existing referral service login details or you can create a new account.

The BYDA portal represents one of many initiatives that supports our strategic plan to reinforce damage prevention measures to ensure worker safety and minimise community disruption across Australia. To view an overview of the new features, check out the video below.
