Before You Dig Australia (BYDA) has officially launched the BYDA Digital Utility Portal (BDUP), a major step towards transforming how utility information is accessed and used across Australia.
BYDA’s research shows that damage to underground utilities costs Australia more than $4.6 billion each year, driven in large part by fragmented, outdated approaches to sharing asset location information. Evidence shows that providing earlier, clearer visibility of underground assets can significantly reduce risk, improve planning decisions, and lift productivity. This is where the BDUP comes in.
The BDUP has been developed to provide a secure, digital-first approach to utility information, enabling users to view multiple utility networks within a single GIS-enabled environment. The platform aims to improve project planning, support safer excavation practices and reduce the risk of damaging critical infrastructure.

Following a successful proof of concept involving more than 1,000 industry stakeholders, pilot activities are now underway across selected regions, including Perth and North West WA, Sydney and Brisbane.
BYDA is inviting asset owners, local government, contractors, consultants and infrastructure professionals to participate in the pilot and contribute real-world case studies to help shape the future of utility information management in Australia.
